Artist’s Story
Armand Rousseau was born in 1975 in a small French village near Lyon. His passion for art blossomed at a young age, inspired by the rich history and culture of the region. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he developed his unique painting technique that blended traditional European methods with a modern approach. Rousseau traveled the world, drawing inspiration from diverse landscapes and cultures, which is reflected in his works.
Painting’s Creation Story
The painting “Symphonie Urbaine eth” was created in 2023. Rousseau aimed to capture the dynamism and energy of contemporary metropolises but present them in an abstract way that would allow the observer their own interpretation. Months of exploring the urban landscape and its structures culminated in this unique piece, which gained critical acclaim for its innovative combination of form and color.
Canvas and Materials Description
“Symphonie Urbaine eth” was painted on high-quality linen canvas, known for its durability and resilience. Rousseau used professional oil paints, which provided deep, vivid colors and allowed for a variety of painting techniques. The work is dominated by the impasto technique, characterized by thick layers of paint. Which gives the painting a unique texture and three-dimensionality. Artist used a variety of tools, including spatulas, brushes of different thicknesses, and hand-formed tools to create individual effects that resemble the shapes and structures of the urban landscape.
The linen canvas, known for its thickness and absorbency, allowed Rousseau to experiment with layering and depth of the paints. Mixing colors directly on the canvas and using dynamic hand movements gave each stroke a unique character. Which is evident in the energetic and almost sculptural strokes of “Symphonie Urbaine eth
“Creating art is for me not only an expression of creativity but also a way to contribute to the development of humanity”.
